The Italian Andrea Antonelli had the idea to install oars and ladders on a surfboard: the result is the Purf, a vehicle for sport and rescue operations
Creativity also comes to the beach. With the arrival of summer, many inventors and makers are focusing their attention on “beach” projects. One of these is definitely the Purf, the first surfboard equipped with oars. The idea comes from Tirrenia, a Tuscan town in the province of Pisa. The inventor Andrea Antonelli thought to apply oars and paddles to a SUP (Stand Up Paddle) board to allow everyone to have fun at sea. In fact, the paddles and oars make the boat much more stable, controllable and safe even for those who do not have much balance or agility between the waves. The boat also has a very noble purpose: it can be used for rescue activities in rough or very rough sea situations.

Purf: the first surfboard with oars
The inventor of the Purf is Andrea Antonelli, lifeguard and manager of the “Hoasy” Bathroom in Tirrenia. It is not his first beach invention: years ago he invented a special “umbrella plant drill” to make the task less tiring for those who work on the beach. Even the idea of the Purf was born on the seashore: “I created this prototype – says Andrea Antonelli – because I have a passion for rowing, because carrying a boat is not always possible and because being able to take the waves with the Sup board, must be liberating and fun, so I tried 2 oars instead of a paddle, because the oars themselves, already act as stabilizers, giving much more balance and allowing you to cover long distances at sea or on the lake in a short time with minimal effort eliminating the friction on the water that would cause a boat. This is just a prototype, in collaboration with MPT Plastica of Calcinaia Pisa, we are implementing the actual project“.
