Artificial intelligence that can find the place and the instant when a photo posted on social media is taken.
When we find ourselves scrolling through our social media wall, we end up with photos of enchanting places, glimpses at exclusive tourist spots without having any idea where they are. In fact, often those who post photos omit to tag the place, The Follower project is able to trace the exact moment when that photo was taken.
This project is the brainchild of Dries Depoorter (https://www.instagram.com/driesdepoorter) who one day, while observing a panorama from a web, found himself following the movements of a person posing for several minutes in search of the perfect shot. Thus the idea, a system that exploited the streaming feeds of public webcams broadcasting live on the web. The title of the project is very emblematic in fact, follower refers not only to the followers of the instagram channel but precisely to the ability to follow the tracks left on the web. The system is for many a little disturbing, with the right coordinates then the results are astounding, Dries in fact found many of the moments when the photos were taken.
In any case, the project takes advantage of public data disseminated by very popular users, e.g. more than 100,000 followers, and is also part of a series of initiatives to highlight just the other side of the coin, about the dangers of technology and information disseminated on the web.
