The device delivers soap, hot air, water and allows you to keep track of quantities through an application
The spread of the new coronavirus has highlighted some health needs. Among these, the implementation of sanitizing devices in public places. One of the problems to be solved is the limitation of the contact with surfaces and the spreading of water on the floor caused by modern air dryers. A solution could be New-Gen Faucet, a device that delivers soap, hot air and water from a single dispenser. The invention was presented by a group from the Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology during E-nnovate 2020 and won a silver medal. Katkam Ashutosh tells us more about the product.
Can you explain how the birth of your invention? How did you get the idea?
“During this pandemic situation of covid-19 many felt the present sanitizing equipment are not up to the mark. Many devices came into the market so we team were randomly discussing about coronavirus spreading through common usage of taps, hand washes and dryers. Those are the things we use to clean our hands but what if they become hotspot of virus? Then in the discussion we thought of making a gesture controlled tap but they are already present in market. We want something innovative and market attracting so we added all the three features of in a single device. That was the birth of the idea and in the process we added features of calculating water use and the time to refill via an application in mobile“.
How does your invention improve existing technologies?
“Most of the doctors use elbow or leg controlled taps to clean hands so it’s not that convenient and safe. So this will make doctors to clean hands easily. There are many gesture controlled taps but they are not cost effective and not all features are integrated in a single device. This comes with the unique value proposition of hygiene and water saving“.
Has the idea already been patented or do you plan to patent it?
“We are in the process of patenting the design, we already submitted for reviewing“.
What will be the next step? How do you plan to implement your invention or its diffusion?
“We have already prototyped this idea and want to make it more cost effective and plan to launch into the market by tying up with some bathroom designers and traders“.
