The President of the Region of Tuscany announced the invention of new special masks to limit the spread of Coronavirus
The fight against the Coronavirus goes through the little things. One example is the disposable protective masks. These items have literally sold like hotcakes in pharmacies and supermarkets all over Italy and many rely on them to protect themselves from the dreaded Covid19. Masks are even more important in hospitals and health care facilities. Nurses and doctors come into contact with thousands of people and, every day, risk being infected while they work. To protect healthcare workers, some Italian companies have produced special masks against Coronavirus. The novelty comes from the Region of Tuscany and exploits the properties of the so-called “non-woven fabric” (TNT). It is an industrial product similar to a fabric but obtained with processes other than weaving and synthetic resins. This material is highly water-repellent, has excellent resistance to temperature changes and is not abrasive to the touch. All these properties make TNT the perfect raw material for making extremely effective protective masks.
The special masks against Coronavirus
The President of the Region of Tuscany, Enrico Rossi, announced that the special “Made in Tuscany” masks will be distributed as soon as possible to operators in all health facilities. “For the staff in hospitals – said Rossi in a special press conference – we have decided to equip everyone with a surgical mask, this mask is a Tuscan invention. We, or rather I personally, came up with the idea that ‘non-woven tissue’ can retain aerosol, the University has certified that this is the case, it retains it as much as the masks that are now unobtainable”. Rossi added that “we are producing between 20,000 and 30,000 masks a day and we will distribute them in all the facilities. Although the effect is limited to aerosol retention, it is a measure that we can extend to all health care workers and beyond.
