Intel, in collaboration with ASTRI, have developed a new technology based on 5G. In detail, the C – RAN network based on 5G technology supports mobile operators in different ways. In fact, it improves the quality of the line, reducing the energy used, and therefore the operating costs.
Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI) has developed a flexible, scalable, high-performance virtualized C-RAN solution to meet the demanding needs of mobile network operators. But what is a C-RAN solution?
The New Virtual Network
The Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) is a new cloud network based on 5G technology. This technology can be adopted by mobile network operators, with undoubted benefits on:
- Reduction of operating costs
- Reducing energy costs
- Greater efficiency between results obtained and resources employed
- Improved quality of the mobile network
The above benefits are possible thanks to “Virtualization”. Virtualization goes well with 5G because it guarantees flexibility and scalability for ORM (mobile network operators). Based on INTEL general purpose processors, it can be integrated with external third party protocols.
The 5G virtual network of ASTRI
Beyond the purely technical aspects, the reading of which we refer to the following link, what we want to dwell on is more. In particular, if until now we were discussing 4G, now we are not only entering the era of 5G, but we even talk about virtual networks. Classified as the age of the Internet of Things, 5G provides flexibility, scalability and intelligence through cloud technology. At the last Bay Area meeting, Intel defined 5G as the intersection of computer and connectivity.
Considerations
Mobile network operators are investing large sums of money to implement proprietary 5G networks. In fact, the goal is to build a basic RAN infrastructure that provides flexibility, high scalability and high performance. ASTRI, in collaboration with INTEL, has developed a C-RAN solution that is compatible with the 4G and 5G networks and can amplify their performance.
