A genius, a creative, a real inventor retires. We’re talking about Bruno Murari. 83 years old, the famous inventor is a fan of microelectronics applied in different fields of knowledge. Among the many patented inventions, we owe him the rotation of our smartphone horizontally to take pictures
Some people grow up in the myth of Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. This is especially true in our country where we have always suffered from an inferiority syndrome. However, it’s time to be proud in front of Bruno Murari. Always passionate about technology, the scientist has served for 58 years at STMicroelectronics in Brianza. The geo-political conditions and fertile minds were the reason why he was not fascinated by American sirens.
Genius and creativity
In 2017 he won the Sperry Award, the so-called Nobel Prize in Technology for inventing electronic ignition control. In most people’s minds, we owe him the invention of the technology behind the horizontal rotation of the camera of our smartphones. Another striking invention is the mechanism that in a microsecond allows the car to operate the airbags after a collision. This invention earned him two honorary degrees. Below we report one of his speeches at the TEDx event in Bologna in 2011.
In a short video interview of Repubblica TV, the scientist explains how the fundamental passage is in the passage from a macro-electronic vision to a microelectronic one. However, it is important to underline how he said that young people must be given the chance to make mistakes. Bruno Murari is now the head of a project that pushes young people to realize their ideas in engineering and microelectronics. So it’s true that by making a mistake you can learn!
