The secret? Replace instead of the currently used protons, the electrons generated by a laser.
Electron beams to burn some types of cancer in just one second. This is the sensational discovery that could revolutionize in depth the methods of cure of cancer pathologies. To patent this Technique, Gabriele Grittani, a young nuclear physicist working at the Eli-beamlines Research Centre in Dolní Břežany, not far from Praguein the Czech Republic.
The system, which uses a beam of electrons generated by a special laser, would be the optimum for curing lung and prostate cancer , allowing to work with great precision. According to the Italian scientist, an indispensable prototype would be underway to initiate the first experimental phase of this new type of radiotherapy.
The reason why this technique is innovative is soon explained. The system trademarked From Grittani uses, as already said, the electrons, lighter and faster, instead of the heaviest protons today used by the radiotherapy machinery. As the electrons are faster and lighter, they travel in fact to the speed of light, the resulting therapy is quicker, less invasive and cheaper . Thanks to laser technology, it is also possible to monitor in real time the position of the tumor mass, and a greater control over the patient’s treatment.
