Penang, Malaysia is set to be the focal point of the electronics supply chain market in South Asia as it hosts the third edition of the Integrated Electronics Manufacturing & Interconnections (IEMI) Expo from July 24 to 25, 2024. This event, held at the Olive Tree Hotel, promises to attract over 8,000 visitors and more than 200 exhibitors, solidifying Penang’s role as a significant player in the global electronics industry.
The IEMI 2024 is not just an exhibition but a confluence of thought leadership and industry advancements. The expo will feature a comprehensive program including B2B meetings with international delegates, a Malaysian Hand-soldering and Rework Competition, and several key technical sessions focused on advanced semiconductor packaging—a critical aspect of modern electronics manufacturing that influences the future of PCB technology and assembly processes.
Penang’s contribution to Malaysia’s electronics industry is immense, accounting for 80% of the country’s contributions to the global semiconductor sector. It serves as a hub for some of the world’s largest Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies, with strong production capabilities in integrated circuits, both backend and frontend semiconductor manufacturing. This positions Malaysia advantageously in the global supply chain of electronics contract manufacturing and outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing (OSAT).
The expo will also highlight how Malaysian electronics and electrical products, which represent 40% of the nation’s exports, stand to benefit from emerging technological trends such as 5G, sensors, electric vehicles (EV), and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Government support and the involvement of major industry players underscore the significance of IEMI 2024 in promoting a resilient and innovative manufacturing ecosystem in the region. The event is co-located with the EMAX Expo 2024, providing attendees a double dose of industry insights and networking opportunities.
