Yamaha Corporation has developed and tested a smartphone app that allows you to “cheer from home” even in closed-door stadiums.
Finally back on the field. After more than three months of stops imposed by the Coronavirus emergency, football is getting ready to start again. In Italy, the Serie A championship will resume on 20 June and in the rest of Europe the teams are ready to return to the pitch. Everywhere, however, the championship will restart behind closed doors. The ban on matches will force the fans to follow the match for a long time in streaming or live television. That doesn’t mean there won’t be cheering! In Japan, they have developed and tested a smartphone app that will allow you to cheer from home. The project was conceived by Yamaha Corporation and is called “Remote Cheerer”. As you can tell from the name, the app is designed to allow fans to feel the support of their favourite team. Everything remotely: users can start a chorus or encourage a footballer by simply accessing and pressing a series of buttons. A series of speakers arranged in the stadium reproduces the loud of the fans from home and reproduces the effect of cheering.

An app to cheer from home
Through the app, users can also choose from which point in the stadium their “cheers” will be transmitted. In this way, it will be possible to create real supporters’ curves of the same team and the atmosphere in the stadium – guaranteed by Yamaha – will be very realistic. The “Remote Cheerer” system was tested for the first time on May 13 in Shizuoka Stadium ECOPA in the Japanese city of Fukuroi. The test took place during a match between the two main football teams of the city: Júbilo Iwata and Shimizu S-Pulse. Hiromi Yanagihara, head of Júbilo’s business strategy, expressed great satisfaction: “With the requirement for matches without spectators and the restrictions on live cheering, I think this system will encourage players on the pitch by making them feel that their fans and supporters are close. The fans have enthusiastically joined the initiative and Yamaha has assured that they will continue to work to perfect the system. In fact, the Remote Cheerer app could be a good solution to continue cheering with the league behind closed doors: will it arrive in Italy as well?
