Pfizer President Albert Bourla has announced that the anti-Covid 19 vaccine developed by his pharmaceutical company is 90% effective: ready-made doses by the end of the year
Finally, good news. In the middle of the “second wave” of the Coronavirus, Albert Bourla – president of the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc. – has made a statement that could literally change history. The scientist announced that the anti-Covid vaccine developed by his company and the German company BioNTech is 90% effective. The drug is still in the testing phase (it is in what is known as phase 3, that of testing on volunteers) but the figure is higher than expected. An efficacy of 90% means that 9 out of 10 volunteers who were given the Pfizer vaccine were not infected with Covid. The tests will continue for a few more months and the two companies have not yet published the final data from the trials. However, Bourla’s announcement is very good news and gives reason to be optimistic.

Pfizer: “Our Covid vaccine is 90% effective”
German Health Minister Jens Spahn also commented with satisfaction on the Pfizer announcement. “We want to act in a European way and not follow a national line,” he said at the press conference. “We need a voluntary Covid vaccine. We cannot yet answer the question of how many doses and when they will be available. At this stage, it is likely that a vaccine against a new virus will be available more quickly than ever before in human history. We can be optimistic. In the coming days, Pfizer will ask the European Medicines Agency and the Food and Drug Administration in America for urgent approval. The go-ahead for the release is expected to be close: by November in the US and immediately afterwards in Europe. Pfizer and BioNTech expect to deliver 50 million doses by this year and 1.3 billion in 2021.
