The Claude Monet Foundation has launched an Augmented Reality tour that allows you to visit the famous French painter’s house in Giverny online.
Have you ever dreamed of walking in a Monet painting? Admire the sunset on Le Havre immortalized in Impression, sunrise or be dazzled by the yellow of The Haystacks? All this is possible. Thanks to Augmented Reality. Just in these days, the Claude Monet Foundation has launched a virtual tour to allow enthusiasts to explore the villa in Giverny where the French painter lived from 1883 to 1926. Just one click to walk through the entrance and discover the rooms where Monet painted some of the most beloved masterpieces of modern art. The tour is totally free of charge and to “live it” just log on to the Fondation Claude Monet website. This tour dedicated to the father of Impressionism is just one of many initiatives born from the encounter between art, virtual reality and augmented reality. In recent years, technology that superimposes digital and the physical world has contributed to the enhancement of the cultural heritage of half the world, offering the public more and more engaging and stimulating ways to enjoy it. VR and AR make it possible to virtually visit places as fascinating as they are difficult to reach, digitally enrich the monuments of the most beautiful cities in the world and make culture a spectacle within everyone’s reach: all this does not penalize the world of art but makes it increasingly richer and more engaging.

A virtual tour in the house of Claude Monet
Since the beginning of March, Monet’s house in Giverny has been closed to the public in compliance with the restrictive measures established by the French government for the Coronavirus emergency. Art lovers, however, can visit it online, comfortably seated on the sofa at home. The Augmented Reality tour starts from the ground floor of Monet’s residence. A large entrance hall leads into a yellow dining room and kitchen decorated with white and blue majolica tiles. Immediately after, you arrive in the living room-studio where Monet painted most of his masterpieces. The virtual tour continues upstairs with the bedrooms and bathrooms. Monet’s room is a real miniature museum. On the walls there are reproductions of painters who made the history of Impressionism: Cézanne, Renoir, Signac and Caillebotte. Once the exploration of the house is complete, visitors can lose themselves in the immense gardens of Giverny and admire the water lilies portrayed by Monet in some of his most beloved paintings.
