Maker Faire Vienna 2023 for World Creativity and Innovation Day

Austria’s largest DIY festival offers a diverse program

April 21st is World Creativity and Innovation Day. The Maker Faire Vienna provides a stage for experimental DIY enthusiasts, creative minds, and technology enthusiasts of all ages.

VIENNA, AUSTRIA – The United Nations has declared April 21st as World Creativity and Innovation Day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all areas of human development. The Maker Faire Vienna focuses on these themes. “We are Austria’s largest DIY festival. More than 900 makers will showcase their projects to a broad audience at the Maker Faire Vienna,” explains Joanna Kowolik, project manager of the Maker Faire Vienna. “It is always impressive to see how much creative potential people have.”

Along with similar events in Paris, Hannover, and Rome, the Maker Faire Vienna, which will take place on June 3rd and 4th, 2023, at METAStadt Vienna, is one of the largest Maker Faires in Europe. Under the motto “Makers for Future,” the Maker Faire Vienna 2023 is dedicated to innovative ideas and solutions for shaping the future. What contribution can maker projects make to addressing the major challenges of our time? A special focus is on the topic of circular economy.

Focus on “Let’s make Fashion last” – Sustainable Use of Clothing

“With the focus on ‘LET’S MAKE FASHION LAST!,’ we want to show the potential of the textile industry and how much can be achieved globally by addressing this issue,” says Joanna Kowolik, project manager of the Maker Faire Vienna. Projects dealing with the sustainable use of clothing will be presented at lectures, workshops, and stands.

Uptraded: A Graz-based start-up aims to make second-hand clothing mainstream with a clothes-swapping app and thus put an end to fast fashion.opensewing – Textile Upcycling & Refashioning: At the opensewing workshop stand, a dress made of old textiles will be collaboratively redesigned. Helga from opensewing sits at the sewing machine, creating together and exploring the possibilities of textile upcycling and swarm creativity.RESI Slow Fashion: Here, clothing gets a new chance. Through Visible Mending, the visible repair of clothing, old clothing becomes redesigned unique pieces. Co-founder Alina Saavedra Santis will hold a workshop on this.In a workshop by Petja, visitors have the opportunity to sew their own barefoot shoes. At her stand, she will also present her DIY shoe-making kits for barefoot sneakers.
