The leading company in the sector has unveiled the new idea of tire that never has to be replaced thanks to the tread that regenerates
Ecological ideals are also changing the way we innovate in the field of transport. One example is the wood-fiber car concept. Another field full of innovations is that of tires, today produced with a non-recyclable and highly polluting material. Goodyear proposes a completely innovative tire concept, which removes the problem of replacement and disposal.
reCharge consists of a very lightweight non-pneumatic chassis provided by a central capsule housing and surface slots. The capsule will contain a biodegradable, rechargeable liquid consisting of a mixture of compounds, including fibers similar to spider net. The liquid would be pushed out of the capsule towards the openings on the surface, where it hardens to create new plugs. When the new tread wears out, simply replace the capsule for optimum performance again.
The compound will be customizable to your driving style or weather conditions. An algorithm will analyse the vehicle data to identify the most suitable compound for each case. The system would greatly reduce the environmental impact of the tires, also removing the discomfort of having to check the pressure often or changing the wheels every season. Goodyear has not yet indicated when production of reCharge could start, unfortunately we still have to wait. Meanwhile we try to imagine how will be driving with reCharge with this video:
