The Italian startup Operi Campi has patented a breathable, elastic and extremely resistant natural textile composed of 92% Chinese hemp.
Is it possible to produce a natural, extremely resistant and breathable textile like no other synthetic fibre previously used in the clothing sector? For Opera Campi the answer is yes. And it should be “looked for” in hemp. The Italian startup has launched H-EMP, a super-fabric composed of 92% Chinese hemp of the highest quality. H-EMP is a very elastic and performing material, with surprising properties. Alberto Zivieri, the young founder of the company, explained that he “took advantage of the international patent of a company in Prato that is still little used because it is very expensive; the company is supporting us a lot because for the first time it sees its own creation in concrete terms: it is a very special product. The fabric is modified and therefore very elastic, but the characteristics remain those of hemp. The laboratory analyst told us that he has never seen such a breathable fabric, despite the hundreds of products analyzed between the synthetic and natural ones. It’s a textile that can’t get sweaty because the moisture produced by the body immediately passes through the textile and doesn’t get trapped.
H-EMP: the super resistant and breathable hemp textile
The other great virtue of H-EMP is thermal insulation. In fact, in addition to allowing moisture to breathe, the fabric is able to ensure that the heat is maintained when it is cold and eliminated, cooling when it is hot. Not only, because the analysis of the Lart laboratory in Carpi “confirmed the great resistance to traction, which makes it a very resistant fabric and a great elasticity, unlike traditional hemp, also eliminating the classic folds that hemp creates. It seems futuristic compared to traditional textile hemp”. For now, the production, launched with a campaign on Kickstarter by Opera Campi, includes only jackets and trousers. Soon, however, will also be produced t-shirts and technical products for outdoor activities. “This is because it is a fabric that has the best characteristics of the most performing technical fabrics. The breathability of Gore-tex is nothing compared to that of our product. Clearly, ours is not waterproof, because it is not scientifically possible to maintain impermeability when the textile is very breathable”.
